Schedule: HEROES Mentors meet Saturdays (starting Late January) from 10:30-2:30 PM via Zoom
 

Number of Vacancies: For the Fall 2024 semester, we are looking to hire 2-4 interns for this position.

 

About Pathway to Success: 

The HEROES Pathway to Success Program is a virtual Saturday program designed to empower students in grades 9-12 to enhance their college and career readiness. Participants have the opportunity to select 2 courses that align with their goals and aspirations, gaining valuable knowledge and skills not typically covered in traditional school curricula. Additionally, students benefit from substantial support, advice, and guidance provided by seasoned mentors and professionals. This program offers a unique chance for students to thrive and prepare for their future endeavors.

Time Commitment: 

  • Orientation 

    • Late December - TBD 

  • Training 

    • January 13th - 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM 

  • Program 

    • February 3rd, 10th, 17th - 10:30 AM to 2:30 PM 

    • March 2nd, 9th, 16th, 23rd - 10:30 AM to 2:30 PM 

    • April 6th, 13th, 20th -  10:30 AM to 2:30 PM

    • May 4th & 11th - 10:30 AM to 2:30 PM

About the Course: The Financial Literacy course offers high school students an invaluable opportunity to gain the knowledge and skills necessary to navigate the complex world of personal finance. This course is designed to equip students with the financial knowledge and confidence they need to make informed decisions about money, setting them on a path toward financial independence and success. By the end of the Financial Literacy course, students will have gained a strong foundation in managing their finances effectively. They will be better equipped to make sound financial decisions, save for their goals, and build a secure financial future. This course empowers students with the essential life skills they need to thrive financially and make informed choices as they embark on their college and career journeys.

About the Course: In this course, students will embark on a transformative journey of self-discovery and academic growth. This course is specifically designed to help high school students explore and articulate their unique identities while developing essential college-level writing skills. By the end of the Identity & College Writing course, all students will emerge not only as confident writers but also as individuals who understand the power of their own identities and are better prepared to excel in college and beyond. This course equips students with the tools they need to express themselves effectively and authentically in their academic and personal journeys, with a particular focus on helping upperclassmen navigate the crucial college application process. For our 11th and 12th graders, a significant emphasis will be placed on perfecting and editing their college essays and supplemental writings.

About the Course: The Career Exploration course is a dynamic and interactive journey that empowers high school students to discover their passions, interests, and the numerous amount of opportunities that lie ahead in the world of work. This course is thoughtfully designed to guide students on a path of self-discovery, helping them make informed decisions about their future careers and setting them on the road to success. By the end of the Career Exploration course, students will emerge with a clear sense of direction and purpose. They will have explored various career paths, developed the skills and knowledge needed to pursue their goals, and built a roadmap for their future. This course empowers students to take charge of their career aspirations and make informed choices as they prepare to become career ready.

About the Course: The College Planning & Success course is a tailored program designed to guide high school students through the intricate journey of preparing for and succeeding in college. This course equips students with the knowledge, skills, and strategies needed to prepare for college. For 9th and 10th graders, the course offers an early exploration of colleges and universities, where they will learn about different types of institutions, majors, and potential career pathways. They will gain an understanding of how to align their high school experiences with future college goals. For 11th and 12th graders, the course provides extensive support on how to navigate the application process. They will also learn about financial aid options, scholarships, and the FAFSA application process. Additionally, they will receive support in making the transition from high school to college, including advice on dorm life, time management, and adjusting to the college environment.

We are seeking dedicated and motivated Teaching Assistants to support the HEROES Pathway to Success Program. Teaching Assistants will work closely with instructors and students to ensure a successful learning experience. This role offers a chance to make a positive impact on the educational journey of high school students and help them prepare for their future careers and college pathways.
